Becoming a Product Manager

Swag I got from Product Buds. It’s a community of budding product managers, and they were very welcoming. You should check them out!

I only got to know who a product manager is, or what they did some months ago. Before then, I knew full well that being a developer was not my dream, and design began to prove difficult. Or maybe it wasn’t, and I just was impatient.

In my first semester as a final year student, I got introduced to project management, and it’s something I found very interesting. So, I began researching about project management in the tech world, one thing led to the other, and I found out about product management. It wasn’t love at first sight, though — more of confusion. I did not want to spend time learning design and product at the same time, unlike many others, I love to focus on one thing and do it very well. About a month passed, and I was still so confused because design is reallyyyy fun and well, product management is educative. After much contemplation, I settled for product management and started taking courses, building my portfolio, learning all I can, and more.

It hasn’t been a smooth ride, but I can say I have learned quite a lot, considering my four months in this field. In subsequent posts, I will be sharing more about what I’ve learned.

And if you’re an aspiring PM or a budding PM just like me, be sure to stick around and connect with me too!

Till next time,
